KOTA KINABALU: Is the controversial 500km gas pipeline from Kimanis in Sabah to Bintulu in Sarawak on?
This question is on the minds of Sabah politicians who have different opinions on the status of the project which Prime Minister Datuk Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said had been scrapped but Petronas maintains is still on.
Chief Minister Datuk Musa Aman believes that the project is on while Minister in Prime Minister’s Department Tan Sri Bernard Dompok firmly stated it was off based on the Prime Minister’s announcement at a meeting of state leaders here on May 31.
“As far as I know it is on, (however) we will seek clarification from Petronas about the project,” Musa said of the project which caused a storm as many Sabah political leaders have been asking Petronas to set up downstream petrochemical industries here.
Dompok said Abdullah had clearly stated that the project was “scrapped” at a meeting here.
