Rahman on Kota Belud's unique attractions

Kota Belud: The Kota Belud scenery, particularly Kampung Sayap on the foothills of Mount Kinabalu, has similar features as those in New Zealand.

Kota Belud MP Datuk Dahlan Abdul Rahman said visitors to the area could not believe that they are in Sabah, in view of the impressive waterfalls and crystal clear streams, coupled with the relatively cool mountain air, that are found in New Zealand.

Such is the uniqueness that could promote the tourism industry in Kota Belud, Sabah in particular, he said, during a visit to Kampung Taginambur, near here, Saturday.

These are the features that could help promote the homestay programme in the district, he added.

These attractions, however, would be meaningless without power and clean water supplies, to enable tourists to take advantage of the homestay programme on a long-term basis, he said.

Dahlan, however, assured that the power shortage problem would soon be over, following the construction of the Sungai Purak Ogis mini-hydro dam, under the 9th Malaysia Plan.

He also pointed out that the Kampung Bayayat water treatment plant could produce sufficient clean water supply in the near future, when fully completed.
