Con men wearing strong cologne on the prowl
IPOH: Two foreign-looking men, wearing strong cologne, are believed to be mysteriously robbing their victims by just talking to them.
The duo, believed to be on the police wanted list for robbery, are said to be active in commercial areas here.
Their latest victims were 60-year-old Leow Kiang Yee and his two sons Yoon Peng, 38, and Yoon Min, 32, who run a plastic products factory in Taman Song Choon here.
At a press conference organised by Batu Gajah MP Fong Po Kuan, Yoon Min said the incident happened at 3.30pm on June 4.
“The two men, in their 30s, approached us on the pretext of buying some plastic bags,” he said yesterday.
“The shorter man asked Yoon Peng to break a RM50 note for the purchase while the taller man kept watch outside the shop”.
Yoon Min, who was at the back of the shop, said he felt something amiss when Yoon Peng asked him to show the suspect how much he had in his pouch bag.
Kiang Yee said he felt odd when the stranger asked to see his wallet.
“In my mind, I did not think it was right to show my wallet to the man but I still went ahead to surrender my money to the suspect,” he said.
Kiang Yee said the suspects took some RM2,000 from them.
He added that the closed-circuit television system installed at the shop captured the incident, including the identities of the two suspects.
